Property group Vukile planned to start revamping its 50%-owned East Rand Mall, in Boksburg, in August.

Joint owners, property giant, Redefine, and Vukile would inject more than R300-million – R153.3-million each – to expand the current 62 516 m2 shopping centre by another 7 300 m2.

Vukile, which bought 50% of the mall for R1.1-billion in April last year, noted that the proposed extension, for which the design and tender process, as well as the tenant notice period, was currently under way, would include a 4 500 m2 Food Lovers Market upon completion in October 2015.

The eastern entrance of the East Rand Mall would also be repositioned, which would add extra lease areas and see floors, shop fronts and ceilings upgraded.

The parking area would also be combined with the adjoining South Africa Corporate Real Estate-owned East Rand Galleria – which was undergoing its own upgrade currently – resulting in an increased parking ratio of 4.2 bays per 100 m2 gross lettable area.
