Dr Tshepo Mokoka has been appointed acting CEO of the Petroleum Agency South Africa (PASA), effective August 1.

He took the reins from Dr Phindile Masangane, who has taken a job in the private sector. Mokoka will serve as acting CEO until the PASA board concludes a recruitment process to identify a permanent CEO.

For several years, Mokoka has been an integral part of PASA’s oversight body, the Central Energy Fund (CEF). PASA says he has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and deep industry knowledge during his tenure as the CEF’s COO. With a record of successful projects and initiatives, he is well-equipped to steer the company confidently and competently through this transitional period.

Mokoka holds a PhD in Economics, an MCom in Economics, and Honours degrees in both Bachelor of Economic Science and Bachelor of Science.

“We are confident that he will continue to drive PASA’s mandate of exploring South Africa’s nascent oil and gas industry at a time when alternative energy solutions are critical to our country’s economic stability.

"PASA has made noteworthy progress in this regard under the tenure of Dr Masangane, and Dr Mokoka will enjoy the support of an experienced and driven team at PASA during this interim period,” says PASA chairperson Satish Roopa.

“I am committed to leveraging my experience and expertise to steer the organisation through this transitional period. With the unwavering support of the leadership team, we will maintain our focus on achieving our goals and upholding the values that define us.

"Together, we will build upon PASA's legacy of excellence and ensure its continued growth and success," Mokoka comments.
