In late October and early November, South Africa witnessed first-hand the devastating and deadly effect of fire along its picturesque Garden Route. Only days later, the 2018 wildfire season in California emerged to become one of the most destructive on record. Pictured above is an American flag standing among burned rubble during the Camp Fire, in Paradise, California. The Camp Fire north of Sacramento killed about 50 people and destroyed over 8 500 homes and structures.
