Project Description
The De Aar solar project is the largest solar plant in Africa, the Middle East and the southern hemisphere.

The project is located on 473 ha and comprises 503 942 modules.

The project comprises De Aar 1, which has an 85 MW capacity and De Aar 2 with a 90 MW capacity.

The solar farms will provide between 75 000 and 100 000 South African homes with electricity.

The next phase, the 86 MW De Aar 2, forms part of the extended Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme – fourth window.

Value
De Aar 1 and De Aar 3 cost R2.2-billion and R2.6-billion respectively.

Duration
De Aar 1 came on line in August 2014 and De Aar 3 in March this year.
