JSE-listed information technology company Datacentrix this week unveiled its latest highly customisable and flexible tier-four modular data centre.

The data centre, which was built by Cannon Technologies, was an energy-saving, mobile data centre solution for the South African market, said Datacentrix business development manager for the infrastructure optimisation business unit Brian Lendrum.

Datacentrix partnered with Cannon Technologies last year to deliver a rapidly deployed tier-four centre that incorporated core design principles of high-availability, adaptability, energy efficiency, redundancy and security.

The centre incorporated raised floors, uninterruptable power supplies, in-row cooling, power distribution, lighting, fire suppression, customisable remote and local security at rack level, aisle cocooning and Cannon Data Centre Manager software.

The robust data centre hosted Cannon “smart space” cabinets, which offered further security options, planning and cost advantages, easy data centre management features and improved cable access.

The CannonPower system provided temperature, energy and environmental monitoring, including real-time measurement and control within each rack.

Meanwhile, the CannonCool cooling solution included passive climate control, rack cooling to liquid chilling of equipment and could be designed to meet required specifications.

The data centre could be constructed within 18 weeks from time of order, compared with the 18-months delivery of a standard brick and mortar data centre.

The data centre was awarded the DatacenterDynamics 2012 EMEA award for the most extreme deployment, as well as the Frost & Sullivan New Product Innovation Award.
