Project Description
The project includes the construction of a cement plant, which will have the capacity to produce 1.5-million tons of cement a year, in Ethiopia’s Oromya region.

The project is part of 14 projects that Dangote is undertaking as part of its strategy to solidify its presence in Africa.

The development of the cement plant in Ethiopia comes at a time when the horn of Africa nation is grappling with a severe cement deficit amidst rising demand, as a result of substantial investments in infrastructure, such as roads, dams, bridges and railways. On several occasions, the country has been forced to import the product to cover the shortfall.

Current cement demand stands at between seven-million tons and eight-million tons a year, while production stands at 2.4-million tons a year.

The plant is expected to begin production in 2014.
