Cortec’s VpCI®-391: A Non-Tacky Water-Borne Coating For Long Term Protection!

17th July 2015

Company Announcement - Using Cortec® patented Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitor (VpCI®) technology, VpCI®-391 provides a water-borne coating for medium to long-term outdoor protection. Classified as a temporary coating because it can be removed with alkaline cleaners, the product features excellent salt, humidity, and UV resistance for outside applications.

Cortec® VpCI®-391 offers users an environmentally friendly exterior coating. In addition to being water-borne, the coating is a complex mixture of non-toxic organic inhibitors formulated with a water-based acrylic polymer. It provides a very low VOC that dries to a resilient, tack-free coating in 30 to 60 minutes. This coating incorporates Cortec’s patented VpCI® technology for superior corrosion protection for aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, and galvanized steel.  It allows metal equipment, parts, and structures to withstand outside exposure or storage without deterioration due to corrosive attack.  Because the product comes standard as a clear coating, users can easily determine the condition of metal surfaces with simple visual inspection.

Coated materials can be protected for up to 5 years. When necessary, the VpCI®-391 coating is easily removed with alkaline cleaning. This means that large metal parts or equipment can be stored outside for extended periods of time. When needed, they are easily inspected, cleaned, and put into service. It saves on valuable warehouse space while assuring that metal parts can successfully weather through outside storage.

The coating provides a very cost effective solution to exterior type paints where metal equipment, parts, or structures are in actual service outside but performance regulations require periodic paint removal and re-application. The coating typically provides superior corrosion protection to permanent exterior paints and is less hazardous, environmentally safer, easier, and more cost effective — especially for re-application.

Cortec’s VpCI®-391 conforms to ASTM B-117 Standard Practice for Operating Salt Spray (Fog) Apparatus and ASTM D-1748 Standard Test Method for Rust Protection by Metal Preservatives in Humidity.
