Cooling technology for plastic injection launched

Technology and manufacturing solutions provider RocTool last month launched its RocTool Performance Cooling (RPC) unit to complement its induction heating process for plastic injection and composites processes.

“This is in keeping with the work that has been done by RocTool systems and engineering teams in developing a range of new performance cooling units to meet the manufacturer’s growing demand for our heating and cooling technologies in production globally,” says RocTool systems and peripherals manager Jean-François Martinez.

The company offers a range of equipment designed to deliver high-performance cooling. The RPC has been designed specifically for RocTool processes and is dedicated to both plastic injection and composites processes. The new cooling unit is easily controlled by RocTool’s tactile interface.

One of the main objectives for RocTool teams working on RPC units is to optimise cycle times to increase equipment productivity. This assists plastic injection users in improving their cooling time by reducing the flow to a laminar state during heating, while accelerating the flow to a turbulent state during cooling.

“It is a great cycle time improvement and an extra cooling control capability. This is a real technological breakthrough that enables our users to have better control over temperature changes and save valuable production time,” explains Martinez.

He adds that RocTool’s T9 cooling unit is a compact thermoregulation unit that offers a greater cooling power at 140 kW, in contrast to the 40 kW by standard equipment. The unit can also achieve high pressure and controlled flow rates.

RocTool was created in 2000 as a technology and manufacturing solutions provider offering engineering services and systems. Its induction process is fully adapted for plastic injection and composite processing, including multiple configurations to fit with tier manufacturers’ requirements. The company’s research and development team is adapting the technologies to more materials, including metal.

RocTool also offers high definition plastics capabilities to plastic molders and light induction tooling to composite part suppliers. The processes developed by the company are used in production in industries, such as automotive, aerospace, consumer products and electronics.
