A competition aimed at identifying innovative startups in the field of electricity access in Africa has been launched, following an agreement between energy multinational Enel and Swiss-based Seedstars World, which facilitates startup competitions in more that 75 countries.

Dubbed the ‘Africa Energy Track’ challenge, the competition aims to enhance technology and entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa’s rural areas, with a particular focus on electric mobility, storage, distributed generation and energy efficiency.

Enel’s renewable-energy unit Enel Green Power will be the exclusive energy partner of Seedstars’ African regional competitions, which will consist in over 20 different local events and include participation of startups across various sectors.

Winners from the local events will participate in regional summits, with Enel Green Power to select at least one startup in the energy field at the Seedstars Africa Regional Summit.

The selected winner will enter a three-month growth and acceleration programme, which includes a financial contribution provided by Seedstars.
