Company completes delivery of industrial gearboxes

24th January 2014

Drive solutions supplier Hansen Transmissions South Africa (HTSA) reports that it has completed delivery of ten Hansen industrial gearboxes of varying sizes to a slurry equipment specialist in October.

“We are proud of our solid business relationships and our relationship with this customer, which extends to their offices outside South Africa. The customer, which delivers slurry equipment solutions to global mining and mineral processing, the power sector and general industry, has placed numerous orders with us over the past five years. This latest order for ten units, which range from 150 kW to 2 200 kW for diverse slurry applications, is the largest order we have received from them to date,” explains HTSA contract coordinator Colin Thornton.

He adds that modifications were made to two gearboxes, the 2 200 kW QHPK1S industrial gearbox, with a 3.94 ratio and LRN handling, and the 150 kW QHRL2 unit with a 3.6817 ratio and a CLN handling, in accordance with cus- tomer specifications.

While HTSA was responsible for commissioning, the responsibility for installation and maintenance requirements on the industrial gearboxes rested with the customer.

The company further notes that it provides durable gear drives for a wide range of industrial applications throughout the world and has established a dedicated international service network.

HTSA provides a range of industrial gear units, such as the invertible gear units (IGUs) and horizontal P4 units.

The IGU in conjunction with the optional rigid flange coupling and motor lantern makes it highly suitable for conveyor applications.

The IGU alleviates the past requirement of separate drives for left- and right-hand orientation of gearbox drives on multiple drive conveyors. The innovative gearbox can be inverted and turned 180° for either orientation. The resultant reduction in the number of spare gearboxes to be held in stock for possible breakdowns leads to significant cost and space savings.

Further, the horizontal P4 units have mounting pads for the motor base on the top of the unit and strong oval lifting lugs for easy handling. It also consists of standard fixation points for easy mounting of accessories on the side of the gear unit.

The rounded external design of the horizontal P4 unit ensures a smooth surface without dirt or moisture retaining cavities. Also, it consists of a complete oil drainage facility to drain the plug at the lowest position and at the system of the internal drain holes.

In addition to its principal manufacturing facility located in Flanders, Belgium, the company has assembly, sales and service centres in the US, the UK, China, South Africa and Australia. Also, its strong in-house research and development operations maintain the company’s technological leadership.
