Project Description
The project involves the construction of 40 000 housing units on 3 200 ha along the R335 to Addo, alleviating Nelson Mandela Bay’s housing backlog of 87 000 units.

Coega Ridge will also include community facilities in addition to schools, a university, a technical college, a hospital and neighbourhood shopping centres, as well as a regional shopping centre spanning up to 110 000 m2.

Also included in the development will be a light industrial area, a railway station, office parks and a sports academy.

An upmarket eco-estate with a golf course and a hotel is also in the pipeline.

R20-billion.

Duration
The project will break ground in 2018 and will be developed over six to ten years.

Latest Developments
Nu-Way has indicated that town planning for the project could be completed by 2017, after which – pending approval from all relevant provincial and local stakeholders – construction on Phase 1 could start.

Project civil engineers company Aurecon has outlined that enough basic infrastructure services are in place to begin the first phase of construction, which will result in about 5 000 housing units being built.
