Project Description
The project includes the construction of a 2 640 MW coal-fired power plant, in Tete province.

The power will be sold domestically and to the rest of Southern Africa.

Value
The project is valued at $3-billion.

The turnkey substation contract is valued at $8.7-million.

Duration
The power plant is expected to start operating in 2015.

Latest Developments
ABB has been awarded the contract to supply a 220/33 kV turnkey substation to electrify the opencast coal mine project.

ABB’s scope of supply includes tapping power from Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), the local power service provider; the construction of a double-circuit overhead line from the tapping point to the substation site; and the construction of the substation. The installation will be compatible with the existing system of service provider EDM.

Key products to be supplied include step-down transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, control interface and communication equipment.
