CLOUDS & LININGS

A silhouette of people on a walkway during a tour of the Eastern basin acid mine drainage (AMD) treatment plant, located in the Gauteng town of Springs. The high-density sludge plant is the largest of South Africa’s three AMD treatments plants and is also, according to the Department of Water and Sanitation, one of the largest of its kind in the world. It may not be sufficient to blow away Gauteng’s AMD clouds, but it is something of a silver lining nevertheless.
