Recent statements made by government and African National Congress leaders regarding possible private investment into struggling State-owned power utility Eskom were confusing, to say the least – possibly deliberately so. But the bottom line is that government has limited ability to inject further capital into Eskom, while society has a low tolerance for much steeper price increases. So something will have to give.
