Name of the Project
Cleanergy hydrogen pilot plant.

Location
Outside Walvis Bay, in Namibia.

Project Owner/s
Cleanergy Solutions Namibia, a joint venture comprising Ohlthaver & List and CMB.TECH.

Project Description
The project will be the first green hydrogen production site of its kind in Africa. It is being developed as a flexible project that can easily be extended using other activities and technologies. It will feature a solar park on 10 ha and a hydrogen production facility with a 5 MW electrolyser and 5 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

Its primary goal is to produce 200 t/y of green hydrogen, catering to various local applications within Namibia's port, mining and transport sectors, encompassing road and rail.

The electrolyser will produce green hydrogen based on the electricity input from the solar park and the energy stored in the BESS. A hybrid control system will manage the electricity flows to ensure stable green hydrogen production and a stable mini-grid.

This setup is unique worldwide and will provide Cleanergy with the necessary knowledge for its future developments.
