Cities Of Tomorrow In The Spotlight At African Construction Event

African Construction and Totally Concrete Expo will host two high-level features on 16 – 17 May 2018 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

Mega housing projects and large-scale infrastructure development are on the rise in 2018 amid growing population across South Africa and the greater African region.

With urbanisation set to define the future building landscape of the continent, attention is turning to the Smart City agenda and the ways in which a global model does, or does not fit in Africa.

To explore how Africa will adopt smart cities, the 6th annual African Construction and Totally Concrete Expo will stage the African Smart Cities Summit at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

Tracy-Lee Behr, Portfolio Director for African Construction and Totally Concrete Expo 2018, comments:

“We will welcome over 20 integral decision makers to the stage at the summit next week. Aside from commenting on the current market worldwide, they will explore the future reality of smart cities here in Africa.”

She announces some big names on the agenda such as CEO of Mobility Centre for Africa, Victor Radebe and President of the National African Federation for the Building Industry (NAFBI), Aubrey Tshalata.

In addition to the summit, the African Construction and Totally Concrete Expo will feature the African Construction Awards to celebrate the energised building sector in the region.

Tracy-Lee adds:

“The Awards are not only about one night of celebration, but a year-round pursuit to highlight the best of the industry and to demonstrate the passion of those working in the sector.”

The awards categories will include a Lifetime Achievement Award for Women in Concrete and Construction, a Transformation Award and a Media and Communications Excellence Award.

The esteemed panel of judges comprises of construction professionals such as Margaret Ezekiel, Chief Quantity Surveyor at the National Housing Corporation of Tanzania, Charne Karaolis, Sole Founder and Owner of MSHEQ Health and Safety Consultants and John D. Higgs, Board member of NAFBI.

Visitors to the African Smart Cities Summit and African Construction Awards can also enjoy free learning sessions at the expo to keep them ahead of their industry across sectors such as architecture, concrete or digital construction.
