Cigicell reawarded prepaid electricity contract in Cape Town

Prepaid electricity token distributor Cigicell, a subsidiary of JSE-listed Blue Label Telecoms, has been reawarded the contract to distribute prepaid electricity tokens on behalf of the City of Cape Town.

“We have been distributing prepaid electricity tokens on behalf of the City of Cape Town for the past five years and are delighted to have been reawarded the contract, which will begin on September 1,” says Cigicell CEO Alan Kodesh.

He notes that the company’s new licence gives it the ability to distribute prepaid electricity through electronic banking channels, as well as formal and informal retail channels.

“We have also been awarded an exclusive licence to distribute electricity tokens through our unique UniPIN voucher. Our increasingly popular UniPIN proprietary product continues to offer convenience for consumers in both offline and online retail and banking environments,” he says.

Kodesh points out that customers in the City of Cape Town benefit from being able to recharge their electricity meters conveniently and securely, 24/7, through a range of channels.

“The City of Cape Town has the largest municipal footprint of prepaid electricity metres in South Africa. We are proud to continue working with the city to maintain and improve service delivery levels to their prepaid electricity customers,” Kodesh states.
