CGG GeoSoftware Launches New Insight Earth 3.0

3rd June 2015

Company Announcement - CGG GeoSoftware has launched version 3.0 of Insight Earth®, its advanced 3D visualization and interpretation software, offering a fresh approach to extracting geological knowledge from seismic data. High-impact improvements enhance the structural and stratigraphic interpretation capabilities of the entire suite of Insight Earth tools to deliver more accurate interpretations in less time.

Insight Earth takes full advantage of the computational power of a workstation or laptop to bring advanced volume processing capabilities to the user’s desktop. This results in a significant boost in interpretation performance at an exceptional speed. Tedious mouse-clicking is replaced with advanced technologies that condition and analyze seismic data and automate the interpretation process. Insight Earth products operate in concert with any seismic interpretation system so that clients can leverage their current software investment.

With significant new interpretation technology for PaleoSpark and FaultFractureSpark, users can interpret a variety of depositional environments faster and with greater accuracy and geological insight. This is partly achieved through unique patented ‘footprint removal,’ a critical data conditioning step available in all Insight Earth workflows and applications. Dip-oriented and oblique footprint can now be removed from large seismic volumes very rapidly and efficiently. Now, with the introduction of ‘dip-guided autotracking’, users can track horizons, faults, salt, canyons and other geological features in 2D, 3D, and curtain slice tracking modes using estimates of dip to properly constrain elements that define the feature. New tight, interactive ‘stopping conditions’ enable the user to impart their geological knowledge on the interpretation and maintain control to produce the most accurate subsurface interpretation possible in the shortest project timeframe. Complex geologic settings can be interpreted with one auto-tracker.

New workflows in PaleoSpark optimize the stratal slicing of carbonate reefs for imaging and analysis of carbonates.  For canyons, interpreters can create an attribute volume to image the canyon boundaries, and then track the boundaries in 3D for improved results. New technology in SaltSpark includes geobody surface wrapping, and lattice interpretation for flexible editing of salt mesh and quick updates to velocity models. Kamal al-Yahya, Senior Vice President, GeoSoftware, CGG, said: “Insight Earth 3.0 strengthens CGG’s position as the leader in high-end integrated geology & geophysics interpretation, analysis and reservoir characterization. Our software portfolio creates a living set of best practices in this market aimed at continuously improving clients’ return on investment. ”
