Call for entries for Steel Awards 2016

2015 WINNER The Overall Winner at Steel Awards 2015 was the MeerKAT project of the Square Kilometre Array Africa Radio Antenna Positioner

Steel construction industry representative organisation the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (Saisc) is calling for entries for its Steel Awards 2016, which will take place simultaneously in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town on September 15.

The deadline for entries is April 21, however, a 10% early-bird discount is being offered for completed entries that arrive at Saisc on, or before, April 14.

“This year is a very special year for the Steel Awards as we will be celebrating, inter alia, Saisc’s sixtieth year. We expect that the industry will respond positively to this being the sixtieth anniversary of the institute’s existence and we expect more entries than ever,” says Saisc CEO Paolo Trinchero.

In spite of challenging times over the last couple of years, he notes that there is no doubt that there are still many projects being done in and around South Africa that prove that the standard of steel construction in the African region is as good as anywhere in the world.

The main criteria of an entry into the Steel Awards is whether a steel project illustrates clearly what can be achieved with steel. Another condition of entry stipulates that the steelwork should essentially have been completed in 2015.

Standard project entry fees are a fixed R925 for projects of 10 t or less, and a fixed R3 600 for projects greater than 10 t. Both these fees are VAT inclusive.

Benefits for entrants of large projects include one complimentary seat at the Steel Awards dinner at the venue of their choice (Johannesburg, Durban or Cape Town), on condition of booking more than one seat in total, as well as a 5% discount on any advertisement placed in the special Steel Construction edition, which will be distributed at the Steel Awards dinner.

Entrants should note that the material to be submitted by the deadline must include the fully completed entry form (in Microsoft Word format), including full and accurate details of all project team members, between 6 and 20 quality images including one to consider for the yearly photographic competition and a project description as well as an entry motivation.
