Cacuso bioenergy project, Malanje, Angola.

Project Description
The project involves the establishment of Angola’s first bioenergy plant, in the municipality of Cacuso, in Malanje province, about 350 km from Luanda.

In the initial phase, this 30 000 ha property will process two-million tons of sugar cane to produce 260 000 t of sugar, 30 000 m3 of ethanol and 45 MW of electric energy.

Value
The project has an estimated budget of $220-million.

Duration
The project is targeted to be completed in 2012.

Client
Companhia de Bioenergia de Angola, a joint venture company comprising Brazil’s Construtora Norberto Odebrecht (40%), Angola-based Damer (40%) and State-owned Sociedad Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola (Sonangol) (20%).

Latest Developments
In February 2011, construction works started on the sugar production line and about 35% of the industrial assembly had been completed.
