Global education institution Regenesys Business School announced on January 24 that it had appointed former Deputy Public Protector Kevin Malunga as the new School of Law academic head, effective January 1.

The appointment coincided with the news that the business school would be rolling out a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree – approved by the Council on Higher Education – for the first time in July.

In his new position, Malunga would oversee the rollout of the new degree programme, both locally and internationally.

“I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to be involved in the inception of the School of Law at Regenesys Business School. I look forward to working with the rest of the academics and producing well rounded LLB graduates who will go out into the world and make a difference,” Malunga said in a statement.

Over the course of his career, Malunga has served as an academic, civil servant, researcher, entrepreneur, anti-corruption commissioner and an ombudsman. He recently managed a governance advisory firm consulting with State organs on investigation upskilling, conflict of interest, corporate governance, alternative dispute resolution and anti-corruption law.

Prior to that, Malunga served as the Deputy Public Protector from December 2012 to December 2019. In this role, his focus was preventing and redressing the negative impact of State action or inaction by conducting thorough investigations into corruption and service failure by State organs.

“[Malunga] brings with him a wealth of experience from the private and public sectors. We are certain that students who enrol for their LLB with us will become great legal practitioners because they would have benefitted from the mind of one of the most respected advocates in the country,” concluded Regenesys group chairperson Dr Marko Saravanja.
