Project Description
The existing Busega–Mpigi road is currently a two-lane tarmac road (one lane in each direction) and is highly congested especially between Busega and Mpigi with more than 26 000 vehicles a day travelling on the route.
The project involves:
• the construction of a 23.7 km four-lane express highway on a new alignment, with four grade-separated interchanges – Nabbingo, Nsangi, Maya and Lungala;
• the construction of 20 km of link and/or service roads (a 7-m-wide carriageway, with 2 m × 1.5 m shoulders);
• the construction of 8 km of auxiliary lanes;
• the construction of 12 km of interchange loops (4-m-wide carriageway, with 2 × 2 m shoulders);
• the construction of five under and overpasses to facilitate a closed access system; and
• the installation of lighting for the entire expressway.
