Global testing, inspection and certification body Bureau Veritas has installed a solar power plant at its AgriFood Laboratory, in Cape Town, to enable operations to continue without reliance on the national electricity grid.

This development allows the lab to operate at full capacity all day without interruptions and represents a significant stride towards the group’s objective of achieving environmental sustainability through reducing its carbon emissions.

Bureau Veritas Southern Africa district CE Gavin Hefer says the solar and backup energy installed at the lab in Cape Town allows the company to better serve clients in the Western Cape, while alleviating pressure from the national grid.

The lab, based in Brackenfell, provides certification services to industrial hubs and those operating in the wine, fruit, wheat and rooibos industries.
