Construction group Murray & Roberts (M&R) has appointed Peter Bennett as CEO of its oil and gas business platform and of project services subsidiary Clough, with effect from February 1.

He would succeed Kevin Gallagher, who was appointed CEO of Australian oil and gas company Santos, in November.

Bennett most recently served as president of energy infrastructure group CB&I's international oil and gas division, based in The Hague, Netherlands. Prior to that, he was senior VP of CB&I's Australian and Asia Pacific oil and gas operations, in Perth, Australia.

He had more than 20 years of business leadership experience in the international oil and gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) markets, covering general management, operations, project management, business development and mergers and acquisitions.

"Peter is an experienced oil and gas executive and joins the group after 26 years with CB&I, a leading global engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, focused on energy infrastructure. He will play an important role in the pursuit of our strategic future . . . and our vision of being a leading international diversified project EPC group by 2020.

“Considering Peter's oil and gas and, specifically, LNG experience, as well as his successful career at CB&I, he is the ideal candidate to lead Clough and the oil and gas platform,” commented M&R CEO Henry Laas.
