PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The first of the two new production wells at the BassGas joint venture (JV), in Victoria, has been spudded, operator Origin Energy reported on Monday.
The Yolla 5 and Yolla 6 wells were being drilled as part of Stage 2 of the BassGas mid-life enhancement project, which would extend the production from the Yolla field.
Origin said that the two-well drilling programme followed the successful lift of the export compression and condensate pumping units into place on the Yolla platform in December last year.
“The spudding of the first two production wells at Yolla is an important milestone and the culmination of years of planning,” said Origin CEO for upstream Paul Zealand.
“Completion of the mid-life enhancement project will extend the production life of BassGas to continue to meet the growing demand for gas on Australia’s east coast.”
The BassGass JV is designed to produce about 24 PJ/y of sales gas together with one-million barrels a year of condensate and 75 000 t/y of liquefied petroleum gas.
Origin, AWE, Prize Petroleum International and Toyota Tsusho Gas E&P Trefoil jointly hold the project.
