Aura Solar II project, Choluteca municipality, Honduras

Name and Location
Aura Solar II project, Choluteca municipality, Honduras.

Client
The project is being developed by independent Mexican energy developer Gauss Energía.

Aura II will be owned by Corporación Aura Solar and the Flores Guillen Family.

Project Description
The project entails the development of a photovoltaic solar plant with a capacity of 61 MW direct current/50 MW alternating current over 150 ha of modified habitat and agricultural pasture land.

Aura II will include the installation of 200 000 polycrystalline solar modules.

It will be interconnected to Santa Lucia – an existing substation located on the outskirts of Choluteca – through dedicated 34.5 kV single-pole transmission lines, 11 km in length, along an existing road.

Given the peri-urban siting of the Santa Lucia substation, the last 50 m of the transmission line will be buried.

The solar project is expected to generate an estimated 125 GWh/y.

Value
The project will cost an estimated $120-million.

Duration
Construction is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2015.
