Ammonia and urea fertiliser plant, Angola

3rd February 2012 By: Lisete Bigala

Name and Location
Ammonia and urea fertiliser plant, Zaire province, Angola.

Project Description
The ammonia and urea fertiliser plant will be constructed in Soyo, Zaire province, about 300 km north of Luanda.

The planned daily production capacity is 2 000 t of ammonia and 1 750 t of urea. The plant will effectively use excess natural gas supplied to a liquefied natural gas plant under construction in Soyo.

Angola is dependent on fertiliser imports, and this is an important project that will contribute to a switch to domestic production through the effective use of domestic natural gas.

Value
The total cost of the project is estimated at more than ¥100-billion.

Duration
Construction, including production and shipping facilities, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.

Client
Angola Ministry of Geology, Mining and Industry.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Sojitz Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Toyo Engineering and Sumitomo Corporation (factory design and environmental-impact report).

Latest Developments
A Japanese consortium made up of Sojitz Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Toyo Engineering and Sumitomo Corporation has signed an early work agreement (EWA), covering a portion of the engineering work, plant basic design, preparation of engineering documents and contracts, and site surveys for the project, with the Ministry of Geology, Mining and Industry.

The consortium also plans to obtain the order for plant engineering, procurement and construction following the EWA.
