Alstom appoints MD for Southern Africa cluster

Xavier Boisgontier

Alstom has appointed Xavier Boisgontier MD of its Southern Africa cluster with effect from September 1.

He will be based in Johannesburg.

“I am very excited about this opportunity to lead our Southern Africa operations. There is a real opportunity to develop the railway industry here,” said Boisgontier.

Alstom is the majority shareholder in two major joint ventures in South Africa – Gibela (61%) and Alstom Ubunye (51%).

The construction of Gibela’s train manufacturing facility, in Dunnottar, Gauteng, is well under way and due to be completed by the end of this year.

Alstom Ubunye is becoming a solid industrial, technical and commercial base with a full range of rail products and solutions to serve South and Southern Africa’s mobility needs but also the export market.

Boisgontier has worked for Alstom since 1998. He has extensive experience across the rail industry in South America and also in Europe and the Far East.
