Air Products opens a new world to a Phalaborwa community with a new library

Air Products South Africa recently opened a library at the Lebeko High School which will also serve the greater community in the Mashishimale, in Phalaborwa. This project was completed in conjunction with the Palabora Mining Company (PMC) and the Palabora Foundation.

The library is situated outside the Lebeko High School’s premises which make it accessible to learners at the school as well as members of the surrounding community. The building of the library is an example of Air Products’ corporate social investment (CSI) focus on the youth, education and making a difference in the communities in which they operate.

Air Products has been involved with the Lebeko High School for some time. The Company has donated much needed Life Science kits, provided financial assistance for a group of learners and teachers to showcase a science project in Sweden. A project was also initiated in 2018 were the company  showed the top Grade 12 Science and Maths learners  ‘science in action’ by arranging a tour where they visited two of their largest Air Products facilities in Vanderbijlpark and Kempton Park.

According to the Chairman of the CSI committee, Josua Le Roux, Air Products did not hesitate to become involved with the project: “At Air Products, we believe that investing in the youth and providing them with opportunities, will not only benefit them, but also the larger community in which they live. The library has been built in such a way that it is accessible to all individuals in the community, and it makes provision for those who would like to sit and read for relaxation as well as those who would like to do research. We hope this new library will go a long way to encourage reading and creating a desire for knowledge and information.
