Air motors ideal for use in paper, pulp and board industy

DEPRAG AIR MOTOR Dowson & Dobson stocks a range of Deprag air motors which are made entirely from stainless steel

Industrial products supplier Dowson & Dobson assembly technology manager Herman Parsons says air motors are generally well suited to the preparation of materials in the harsh operating conditions of the paper, pulp and board industry.

“This industry’s operating environments are usually extremely hot and humid. Air motors perform optimally in such challenging conditions, as they are highly durable and robust,” he states.

Parsons points out that Dowson & Dobson stocks a range of Deprag air motors which are sealed and made entirely from stainless steel – this ensures that the motors will not corrode or be damaged when they get wet.

He notes that Deprag air motors are small, compact and produce at higher performance levels than traditional electric motors.

“If the Deprag motor experiences an overload, it will stop, but without any damage to the motor. It can start operating immediately after the overload has been cleared.”

Parsons notes that motor speed can easily be changed by adjusting the exhaust air flow.

“The Deprag motors can operate without oil, which make them safe to operate in environments where oil may be a contaminant. The air motors are available in geared and nongeared options and certain models have an integrated brake design, with a power capacity that ranges from 20 W to 1 800 W.”

Parsons notes that the Deprag air motors are not yet in use in the local paper and pulp industry, but are widely used in this industry in European countries such as Germany and France.

However, he says that Dowson & Dobson has sold several Deprag air motors to board-printing and carton-construction companies for use in the manufacturing of beverage packaging.

“We sold Deprag air motors to a company in the board industry in February last year and have subsequently sold several air motors to companies in the packaging industry.”

Parsons emphasises that the company believes there is significant growth potential for the sale of Deprag air motors in the local packaging, paper and pulp industry.

“Dowson & Dobson’s sales and market teams have started discussions with industry players and displayed the motors to potential paper and pulp customers, and we will continue to intensify our marketing effort . . . this year,” he concludes.
