AGING GRACEFULLY

On July 1, the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation was commemorated. Canada Day, as it is known, marks the anniversary of the 1867 enactment of the Constitution Act, which united the three separate colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick into a single dominion within the British Empire called Canada. This year’s celebrations came amid reports that the North American country’s gross domestic product will also lead the Group of Seven this year. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau played down the forecast, cautioning that the country’s economic performance would be volatile in the short term. Nevertheless, the growth outlook seems to imply that Canada is ageing more than just gracefully. Pictured above are tourists sitting near an illuminated ‘Canada 150’ sign at Niagara Falls, Ontario.
