ABG COO resigns

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Tanzania-focused gold miner African Barrick Gold (ABG) on Wednesday announced that its COO Marco Zolezzi has resigned with immediate effect to pursue other interests.

Zolezzi’s resignation comes less than a month after the company’s former CEO Greg Hawkins resigned on August 21.

ABG CEO Brad Gordon would take direct responsibility for the company’s operations until a replacement for Zolezzi could be appointed.

Gordon thanked Zolezzi for his significant contribution to the company adding that, during his time as COO, he "has overcome a range of challenges at the mines and leaves the business on a solid operational footing".

ABG has three producing mines in north-west Tanzania and several exploration projects at various stages of development in Tanzania and Kenya.

Zolezzi had been COO of ABG since September 2010.
