Project Description
The project proposes the development of the first large-scale wind farm in the governate of Tafila, in Jordan, with an installed capacity of 117 MW. The wind farm will comprise 38 turbines of 3.075 MW each – four turbines will have a hub height of 84 m and 34 with a hub height of 94 m.

The aim of the project is to supply Jordan with about 388 GWh/y of clean, renewable energy and environment-friendly electricity, which will save an estimated 245 992 t of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

Included in the project’s development is a 132 kV substation, a 250 m 132 kV connection to the existing transmission line and a network of access roads about 5 m wide to connect wind turbine generators.

The project is an independent power producer and all the power generated will be sold to the country’s single buyer, the National Electric Power Company, under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The cost of the project is estimated at $302-million.

Duration
Construction of the project is planned to begin in 2013 and will take 18 months to complete.
