Project Description
With six lines, 85 stations and a total route length of about 176 km, the City of Riyadh is planning the world’s largest subway project. The network will have a capacity of about three-million passengers a day.

Line 1 (Blue Line) will run from Olaya street to Al Hayer road.

Line 2 (Green Line) will connect King Abdullah road to the King Fahad stadium.

Lines 1 and 2 will span 63.3 km.

Line 3 (Red Line) will run from Madina Al Munawra to Rahman Al Awal road. It will be the longest line of the metro, at 40.7 km.

Line 4 (Orange Line) will run for 30 km from the King Khaled International Airport to the new King Abdullah financial district.

Line 5 (Yellow Line) will start from the King Abdul Aziz road.

Line 6 (Purple Line) will connect Abdul Rahman bin Ouf street to the Shaikh Hassan bin Hussain bin Ali street.

Lines 4, 5 and 6 will total 64.6 km.

Value
The project is estimated at $23-billion.

Duration
Plans call for construction to be completed in 2019.

Latest Developments
The BACS consortium, led by Bechtel, Almabani General Contractors, Consolidated Contractors Company and Siemens, will design and build the metro lines 1 and 2. It will also be responsible for the train cars, signalling, electrification and integration of the lines to the metro network. The contract value is $9.4-billion.

ArRiyadh New Mobility (ANM) consortium, comprising Ansaldo STS, Salini-Impregilo, Larsen & Toubro, Nesma and Bombardier, has been awarded the $5.2-billion contract for the construction of Line 3 of the metro, Qasr Al Hokom station and Western Station. Larsen & Toubro and Nesma will provide civil works services, Bombardier will be responsible for the procurement of the vehicles and Ansaldo STS will provide technology support services for Line 3.

Ansaldo STS will also provide signalling support services, automation train control and communication-based train control and other telecommunication services.
