PPC partners with provinces to upgrade 82 km road
Cement producer PPC, the Roads Agency Limpopo and the North West and Limpopo provincial governments have entered into a partnership to upgrade an 82 km secondary road between Koedoeskop and Dwaalboom, PPC announced on Tuesday.
The cement producer said sections of this road, which linked Limpopo and the North West, were still made of gravel and were riddled with potholes and dongas.
During the rainy seasons, the road became impossible to traverse, leaving many community members unable to get to work on time and maintain gainful employment.
The road upgrade project would entail clearing and grubbing, construction of traffic deviations, removal or cleaning of existing culverts and fencing, as well as basic earthworks, layer works, surfacing and road markings and signs.
“This road is going to have a huge economic and social impact. It will help the employees at our Dwaalboom plant, but also the thousands of others who need to travel this road on a daily basis to get to work, see relatives, or take their children to school,” PPC Dwaalboom plant training and development officer Asaph Ngoepe said.
Mogalaneng community ward councillor TJ Moeng said the community was excited about the project, adding that it would unlock economic potential in the area.
