South African cement producer PPC on Tuesday launched its ‘Builders’ App’ for smartphones, at the TotallyConcrete Conference and Expo, in Sandton.

PPC marketing manager Sibongile Moko said the software’s main objective was to enable builders and construction workers to work easily and efficiently. “We want to ensure that builders have information at their fingertips.”

The app, short for application, which can be downloaded for free, offers users information regarding construction products, such as cement. It can also carry out quantity estimates of how much product will be required for a specific project, as well as calculate the costs.

In addition to providing information on outlets where cement can be purchased, the app also incorporates a weather forecast feature helping users to plan ahead.

Further, the app also let itself to use beyond the commercial construction sphere and could assist in do-it-yourself projects at home.

However, Moko stated that the app would undergo continuous improvement to ensure its optimum usefulness, “We will constantly review the app and users will be able to provide feedback.”
