Cement producer PPC has appointed Darryll Castle an independent nonexecutive director with immediate effect.

Castle, who holds BSc, BCom and MBA degrees, as well as the Chartered Financial Analyst qualification, has extensive experience in the mining industry and operations and projects experience on the African continent.

He has managed mining companies across the world and has served as CEO of Trafigura Mining Group and Anvil Mining, as well as COO of Metorex Group.

“Darryll’s extensive experience and knowledge of various countries in Africa and [other] emerging markets, as well as the deep relationships that he has built over the years will add great value to PPC. We welcome him to the board and look forward to his insight and contribution,” commented PPC chairperson Bheki Sibiya.

The cement producer has embarked on an African expansion strategy under the leadership of PPC International MD Pepe Meijer. The company reported last month that it had signed engineering, procurement and construction contracts for four projects in Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, with construction under way.
