November global crude steel production up 5.1%
World crude steel production for November 2012 increased by 5.1% year-on-year to 122-million tons.
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) reported that China’s crude steel production for November was 57.5-million tons, up 13.7% on that produced in November 2011, while Japan produced 8.5-million tons of crude steel in November 2012, a 2.3% year-on-year decrease.
Elsewhere in Asia, South Korea’s production was 5.6-million tons in November 2012 – 2.7% lower than November 2011.
South Africa also bucked the global trend, producing some 560 000 t – 5.6% less than its November 2011 output of 593 000 t.
In the eurozone, Germany produced 3.4-million tons of crude steel in November 2012, a slight decrease of 0.2% on its November 2011 output, while Italy’s crude steel production was 2.2-million tons, down by a considerable 12.9% compared with November 2011.
France’s crude steel production was 1.3-million tons, a decrease of 5.4% on November 2011.
Spain produced one-million tons of crude steel, 14.2% lower than November 2011.
Turkey’s production for November 2012 increased by 4.6% to three-million tons, while the US produced 6.7-million tons of crude steel in November 2012 – down by 4.8% on November 2011.
Looking to South America, Brazil’s crude steel production for November 2012 was 2.8-million tons, an increase of 2.4% compared to November 2011.
Meanwhile, the crude steel capacity utilisation ratio for worldsteel members, which account for about 98% of global crude steel production, declined from 76.5% in October to 76.1% in November 2012 – 1.6 percentage points higher than November 2011.
