Duration
Commercial operation of Noor 1 will begin in the second half of 2015.

Latest Developments
Morocco has secured a €654-million loan from German state-owned bank KFW to partially finance two solar power plants, totalling 300 MW and worth an estimated €1.7-billion.

Tenders for the construction of the two plants, one of 200 MW and the other of 100 MW, near the southern city of Ouarzazate, are expected in the next few weeks.

Consortia, led by Spain’s Abengoa, GDF’s International Power and ACWA Power, have been preselected for the 200 MW (Noor 2) tender.

The three groups prequalified for the 100 MW (Noor 3) tender, along with another consortium led by France’s EDF.

KFW will lend €330-million for the construction of Noor 2 and €324-million for Noor 3. The authority has chosen parabolic mirror technology for the 200 MW concentrated solar plant, with a contract estimated at €1-billion, while the 100 MW plant, valued at about €700-million, will be built as a solar power tower.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
ACWA Power Ouarzazate, comprising TSK Electrónica y Electicidad, Acciona Infrastructuras, Acciona Ingeniería and Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas (engineering, procurement and construction – Noor 1).
