No load-shedding on Tuesday morning
Eskom said the power system was stable with no load-shedding taking place on Tuesday morning.
“However, the risk remains as we operate a very constrained and vulnerable power system. The power system will be tight, particularly over the weekday evening peak periods until Friday this week,” Eskom said.
“We will continue to monitor the situation, and should it be necessary to implement load-shedding, we will communicate this accordingly.”
Eskom urged consumers to continue using electricity sparingly in order to reduce the risk of load-shedding.
On Monday night, the power utility implemented stage one of load-shedding from 7pm to 10pm. The announcement came hours after Eskom said electricity supply in the country would be further constrained in the coming week because its import supply from Cahora Bassa, in Mozambique, would halve as a result of maintenance at that plant.
The maintenance work, which was expected to be completed by Sunday, would result in South Africa getting 650 MW instead of the 1 500 MW that is normally imported daily from Cahora Bassa .
