New SA HQ to serve as engineering group’s regional hub
Moving to its new headquarters in Rivonia, Johannesburg, has enabled engineering and services company Bilfinger SE’s subgroup, Bilfinger Power Africa, to ensure its vision of becoming the hub of the Bilfinger group in sub-Saharan Africa.
The new premises will be the headquarters for Bilfinger companies Bilfinger Power Africa, Steinmüller Africa and Bilfinger Intervalve Africa.
The company’s previous headquarters were also situated in Rivonia and were well positioned for its employees, owing to its proximity to major highway routes, which provide accessibility to and from all directions in Johannesburg.
Bilfinger Power Africa marketing manager Susanne Hattingh tells Engineering News the company has grown over the years and has been spread across three buildings within an office park, totalling 3 700 m2.
She adds that the new 4 800 m2 headquarters, which were officially opened last month, offer the company the opportunity to consolidate into one building to improve communication and interaction among all departments and staff.
“As we were previously spread across several buildings, interaction among the different teams and departments was cumbersome. “The company has been based in Rivonia for many years, as our key clients are in close proximity,” Hattingh says.
Further, the company will reduce its operating costs by more than 50%, owing to the latest light-ing, air conditioning, insulation and glassing technology installed.
“Bilfinger demonstrates, with the new head-quarters, its intention to expand in the sub-Saharan region using South Africa as a platform. To many in South Africa, Bilfinger is new, despite being an international group of companies with 70 000 employees worldwide, successfully com-bining engineering and service. Its four major mar- ket segments include industry, energy, real estate and infrastructure,” Hattingh concludes.
