Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson has blamed municipal infrastructure for some of the power cuts in the country.

"Power disruptions are not necessarily... [because of] load-shedding, but in some instances are due to municipal infrastructure failures," Joemat-Petterson said at The New Age breakfast briefing on Monday.

She said energy security would improve.

"Our energy security will improve once we are able to resolve municipal electricity distribution problems, including eliminating tariff discrepancies... and improving revenue collection."

Joemat-Pettersson said the rehabilitation of infrastructure would reduce power cuts and improve service delivery.
