CAPE TOWN (miningweekly.com) – Underground mining services company Murray & Roberts (M&R) Cementation, together with Enterprise Generale Malta Forrest SA (EGMF), used the Mining Indaba as a setting to establish a joint company in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to serve the mining industry in Central Africa.

Johannesburg-based M&R Cementation, with a range of capabilities covering the full spectrum of the underground mining value chain, has teamed up with Lubumbashi-based EGMF, a 94-year-old DRC company, which has been largely involved with civil construction, road building and more recently with surface mining.

The new company, Cementation Mining Contractors, brings together the skill sets and knowledge of both companies, including particularly underground mining expertise from M&R Cementation and country knowledge from EGMF.

“We’re very excited to have EGMF as a partner,” M&R Cementation business development executive Allan Widlake commented to Creamer Media’s Mining Weekly Online on the sidelines of the 2016 Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.

The joint bidding process on projects has already begun using the new entity and the DRC contracting company is looking forward to bringing some of the projects to fruition.

“We see the partnership as a strategic opportunity,” EGMF COO Nicholas James told Mining Weekly Online.
