The Department of Energy (DoE) released a request for information (RFI) for gas-fired electricity generation on Tuesday, the outcome of which would guide the design of a 3 126 MW ‘Gas to Power Procurement Programme’.

Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson said that a request for proposals should be released to the market in September 2015, with a bid-submission phase planned for the first quarter of 2016.

RFI responses must be submitted to the DoE by July 20, 2015.

The Minister also confirmed that the bid-submission date for the Coal Baseload Independent Power Producer Programme had been extended from June until the end of August 2015.

“Preferred bidders for this programme will be announced before the end of this calendar year,” the Minister told lawmakers.
