Morris Material Handling SA (Pty) Ltd, of Apex, Benoni, on Gauteng’s East Rand, manufactures and supplies engineered and standard electric overhead travelling cranes as well as electric wire rope hoists, jib cranes, electric chain hoists and associated lifting equipment.

Through Crane Aid, MMH’s national service division, the company also services, maintains, load tests and refurbishes all makes of cranes, hoists and lifting equipment.
MMH was established in 1952 and currently has 16 branches across South Africa and employs 332 people.

Says a spokesperson for the ISO9001:2008-certified company: “We have the facilities to do steel-plate fabrication as well as machine parts for special use . . . All standard electrical installation is done in-house and, if required, special electrical deviations can be done.”

Morris Material Handling has been awarded several major contracts in recent months, including for the supply of 12 cranes and 13 hoists of various capacities and spans for the Avon and Dedisa peaking power stations, which are the first independent power producer projects in South Africa. The company has also been contracted by TSR Slew Rings to supply 7 cranes used in the heavy lifting machine bay for the loading of slew rings.

Crane Aid Pinetown was recently awarded contracts for the entire Hulamin operation, with the work carried out by the company’s technicians based at Hulamin covering statutory checks, monthly preventive maintenance, project work and the refurbishment of old equipment.

Beyond South Africa’s borders, Crane Aid East Rand has been awarded a three-year contract by Botswana’s Debswana Diamond Mines to service lifting equipment at all three of its mines: Orapa, Lethlakane and Damtshaa. Crane Aid East Rand has also clinched a contract to service lifting equipment at 8 power stations owned by the Sudanese Thermal Power Generating Company.

With a view to affirm Morris Material Handling as the premier lifting solutions company in Africa, they are proud to announce the launch of their new logo and corporate identity. The new Morris logo expresses all that they stand for as a quality product and service provider in the materials handling industry. The unique Morris font is strong and industrial with focus on the ‘O’ signifying both a chain link that is integral to lifting equipment and cyclical; typical not only of the way their equipment physically operates, but equally the way they service their clients. To reinforce the fact that they retain their qualities and reputation that you are used to, their corporate colours have remained unchanged.
