Lesedi bulk petroleum products storage and distribution facility, South Africa
Name and Location
Lesedi bulk petroleum products storage and distribution facility, Gauteng, South Africa.
Client
Vopak South Africa Developments, a joint venture between Royal Vopak and Reatile Group.
Project Description
The proposed Lesedi terminal will be situated adjacent to Transnet’s accumulation facility at Jameson Park – the terminus of Transnet’s new multiproduct pipeline.
The terminal will occupy a 24 ha footprint and will comprise 28 tanks to store hydrocarbons that include both grades of petrol, diesel and jet fuel.
The capacity of the tanks range from 5 000 m3 to 20 000 m3.
The proposed site will be developed in a phased manner, with Phase 1 having a capacity of 140 000 m3 and the second phase 200 000 m3, potentially resulting in a total combined capacity of 340 000 m3. This will be based on future growth in the market.
Planned associated infrastructure for the Lesedi site includes five import lines (product dedicated), ten road loading bays in Phase 1, five road loading and six rail loading bays in Phase 2, utilities and associated services, as well as buildings.
The 28 tanks – 16 in Phase 1 and 12 in Phase 2 – will be designed to appropriate local and international standards.
