Name and Location
Layang field development project, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Client
JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation (75%) and Petronas Carigali (25%).

Project Description
The Layang field is located in Block SK10 off the shore of Malayasia at a water depth of 85 m and about 8 km east of the producing Helang gasfield, in the same block.

The development of the Layang field involves the installation of a floating production, storage and offloading system (FPSO). The initial estimated incremental production of Helang/Layang gas is expected to be about 100-million standard cubic feet a day and Helang condensate/Layang oil/Layang condensate to be about 7 000 bbl/d.

Natural gas produced from the Layang field and Helang gasfields is planned to be supplied through 200-km-long subsea pipelines to Malaysia LNG Tiga’s liquefaction plant, in Bintulu, Sarawak.

The natural gas will be sold as liquefied natural gas after liquefaction, while the condensate and Layang oil is planned to be shipped from the FPSO.

Value
Not stated.

Duration
Commercial production from the field is expected to start in the second quarter of 2016.

Latest Developments
JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration has awarded Technip a subsea contract in the Layang field. The contract covers the engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning of three flexible pipes totalling 9.9 km. The flexible pipes consist of two production risers and flowlines and one gas export riser and flowline, connecting shallow water platforms to the new FPSO.

Technip’s operating centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will execute the contract, while the flexible flowlines will be produced at Asiaflex Products, Technip’s manufacturing facility in Tanjung Langsat, Johor, Malaysia.

The installation campaign will use the group’s multipurpose vessel, the Deep Orient. The project is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2016.
