Kibo kicks off next stage of Rukwa definitive feasibility study
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Dual-listed Kibo Mining has started Phase 2, Stage 1 of the definitive mining feasibility study (DMFS) for its flagship Rukwa coal-to-power project (RCPP).
This followed the confirmation by Minxcon Projects’ technical experts of the conclusion of the Phase 1, Stage 1 part of the process and the completion of the required planning and preparation, including the first scheduled work activities of the mining prefeasibility study.
The Tanzania-focused mineral exploration and development company, which was working towards first power generation from the project in 2018, would now increase the “intensity” of the discussions and negotiations as it sought a joint development partner.
“The company has secured a number of final proposals from potential partners. We hope to have a further detailed update for the market shortly,” said Kibo CEO Louis Coetzee.
The next stage of the project would include definitive feasibility studies on both the coal mine and power plant, along with any associated environmental assessments and advanced financial modelling for the integrated RCPP.
Kibo would move to secure power purchase and grid connection agreements, in addition to all related permits and rights with Tanzania Electric Supply and other government departments and agencies.
