Engineering and construction company Kentz has secured a $24-million contract to carry out the mechanical and piping work for Work Pack 3 of Phase 2 of energy and chemicals group Sasol’s Fischer-Tropsch Wax Expansion Project (FTWEP) in Sasolburg.

The contract would be executed by the construction service line, which would be responsible for the fabrication, installation, testing and handover of mechanical and piping construction of the FT Synthesis (Unit 2600), located within the existing premises of the Sasol One Site.

Kentz would provide all mechanical and piping construction services associated with the installation of 16 vessels and exchangers, 12 pumps, a compressor package, carbon and stainless steel piping, as well as carbon and stainless steel welding and steam tracing.

“Kentz has been safely operating on [the FTWEP] for five years and we look forward to continuing our involvement through Phase 2. We have been working with Sasol for over 30 years and are very pleased to continue our long-standing relationship,” Kentz sub-Saharan Africa regional senior executive Carl Dyer commented.

The FTWEP would see Sasol expand its hard wax production, which was used in adhesives, printing ink, coatings and asphalt.

Sasol reported earlier this month that Phase 1 of the FTWEP had been successfully commissioned.
