Project Description
The project involves the construction of a 300-MW power plant, comprising three fuel-flexible gas turbines, with a combined rating of 315 MW in simple-cycle operation, in northern Rabat.
The country's electricity consumption is estimated to increase by 6% to 8% every year. In addition to helping to meet the current power demand, the new power plant will be key to the expansion and modernisation of the Kenitra port, which is part of the overall development plan to upgrade up to six harbours in the country.
Value
The overall contract is valued at over €200-million.
Duration
Plant construction is expected to take 25 months and is expected to cater for Morocco's fast-growing energy demand by 2012.
Client
State-owned power utility, the Office National de l'Electricité (ONE).

GE Energy and its consortium partner, Cegelec, a subsidiary of Vinci Energies (construction).
Latest Developments
Cegelec has been awarded a contract valued at €96-million to supply all the civil engineering, as well as the electrical and mechanical balance for the power station.
